When the C70 was redesigned in 2006, the previous generation's soft-top was eliminated. Now sold only with a retractable hardtop, the 2007 C70 gets only a few updates, mostly limited to option packages and features.

Exterior
The two-door coupe features rounded corners and headlamps and rides slightly lower than the first-generation C70. The retractable hardtop is supported by a large rear windshield, which provides improved visibility over the original. Overall length is 180.3 inches, while the wheelbase extends 103.9 inches. The hardtop stows away seamlessly into the trunk at the touch of a button. Seventeen-inch aluminum wheels are standard, and 18-inch versions are optional. A new 18-inch wheel pattern debuts for 2007, along with optional metallic paint and a white pearlescent paint option.

Interior
The C70 seats four adults and features ergonomically shaped front seats. Pushing a button on the backrest of each front seat moves them forward to allow access to the rear seats. Power operation is standard on the driver's seat and optional on the front passenger seat. Storage areas accompany each seat, and a private locking system allows certain compartments to be locked with a key from the glove compartment. Long objects can be stored in the trunk by opening the ski hatch in the rear seat.

For 2007, audiophiles can choose a Dynaudio package that includes 12 speakers, Dolby surround sound, two subwoofers and five amplifiers. There's also a Climate Package that includes heated front seats, headlamp washers and rain-sensing windshield wipers. There's also a Premium Package that includes leather seating surfaces, a Homelink remote garage door opener and a compass in the rearview mirror.

Also new for 2007 is an auxiliary audio input for MP3 devices.

Under the Hood
The C70 holds a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-five-cylinder that generates 218 horsepower and 236 pounds-feet of torque. The engine mates with a five-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual.

Safety
To compensate for the lack of a fixed roof, the A- and B-pillars, doors and sills have all been reinforced to defray the force of a collision. Side curtain airbags inflate upward from the doors in the C70. For added protection, these airbags deflate slowly in the event of a rollover — a feature Volvo claims is unique in the industry. Front passengers are also protected with side-impact airbags. An electronic stability system and antilock brakes are standard.

Volvo will begin offering Sirius Satellite Radio as a factory-installed option this summer.

Starting with 2007 models, Volvo plans to offer factory Sirius on the Volvo S40, V50, C70 and the new S80. The radios also feature Dolby Pro Logic II Surround.

Each Volvo S40, V50, and C70 vehicle factory equipped with Sirius for a list price of $295 will include a six-month subscription.

Packaging and pricing for the Sirius option in the S80, available later in model year 2007, will be announced later although the automaker says now it will come with a six-month Sirius subscription.

Volvo previously included Sirius as a factory option on the S60.
