Review :

The product planners of Nissan’s Infiniti Division went back to the drawing board and produced a whole new M45 that clearly resembles the G35, its hot-selling smaller sibling. They also produced a V-6-powered M35 while working on the M45.

The previous car (introduced here for 2003) was a modified version of the Japanese-market Cedric /Gloria, large sedan, and along with looking pretty stodgy, it lacked interior space, even for front-seat occupants if they were tall.

The new M-series, in an extended range including V-6 and all-wheel-drive models alongside the V-8 flagship, with option packages that should satisfy the tech geeks and audiophiles alike.

The latter is an electrically powered system that produces a brief surge of opposite-phase steering (the wheels turn right about one degree when you turn left) to induce quick turn-in, then switches to same-phase steering (also about one degree) to stabilize the car in mid-bend.

The new 2006 Infiniti M45 is powered by a 340 horsepower engine with 333 LB of torque, making it one of the most powerful engines in its class. To do this Infiniti moves air through the Q45’s V8 similar to an intake manifold that directs air through different paths at different engine speeds boosting the low-end torque or unleashing higher horsepower allowing for maximum performance. Compact front Struts balance ride comfort with steering response and a multi link rear setup with lightweight forged aluminum components controls wheel movement keeping the driven rear wheels in better contact with road surfaces. The transmission’s electronics adapt to your driving style. Also available to the driver of the new M45 is the manual shift mode which takes control of the transmission’s 5 gears. The cams and crank shaft are finished to a fine level of precision on Infiniti’s in general and the pistons are coated in a molybdenum. This new Infiniti M45’s engine accelerates faster and runs more efficiently than other’s in its class.

It has sufficient legroom and fully adjustable seats. A keyless fob allows the vehicle to recognize its owner as the driver comes near, permitting the driver to unlock the car at the touch of a button on the pull handle, get inside, and then touch the start button while depressing the brake pedal. This is all possible with the fob stashed in your pocket or stored for safekeeping in a little spring-loaded niche in the dash. If you push the start button without applying the brake, you simply power up the electrical systems without starting the engine.

On the Infiniti M45 there is a convenient button available to operate a perforated screen, which elevates in the rear window to help keep the cabin cool and minimize sun glare. There is an available manual sunshade for the rear side windows, which will help reduce the heat and ultraviolet light inside the cabin even more. In the premium model the air is circulated through the driver or front passenger seatbacks and bottom cushions.

The Q45’s driver seat stores preferences for each of its 10 way power adjustments, it also will recall your personal steering wheel and outside mirror settings by the press of one of the two buttons available in memory. Rear Passengers share the satisfaction of the new Q45. The rear seats offer power recline and heat adjustments on the premium model only. Rear passengers also have the power to control audio levels, as well as the choice between tuner or disc.

The 2006 Q45 has a new Bose audio system which channels 300 watts of sound through eight acoustically matched speakers and a 12-inch woofer. An in dash 6 disc autochanger and AudioPilot noise compensation technology automatically adjusts volume levels to compensate for ambient noise. And there is an optional XM or Sirius Satellite Radio (signal beams directly from a satellite.)

Also available; Infiniti Navigation System with Visteon Voice Technology which recognizes your distinct speech pattern and reacts instantly to your commands.

The M45 Sport comes with xenon headlights and climate-controlled front seats, so its Journey package only adds the balance of those items. A Technology package adds DVD navigation, intelligent cruise control, a five-channel DVD Bose Studio Surround stereo with 14 speakers (two in each front seat) that has to be heard to be believed, a lane-departure warning system, and XM satellite radio.

All models have leather furniture, but the Sport model has more aggressively bolstered seats with double-stitched seams, and they proved quite supportive and comfortable in use. Infiniti claims the rear-seat room to be on a par with that of the Lexus LS430 (at 46 cubic feet, the M45 has two fewer than the Lexus). However, the rear center seat is much less inviting, with a broad transmission tunnel consuming much of the floor space, forcing the middle passenger to splay his legs and have his feet share the front seatback cutouts with the outboard passengers.

All in all, this car offers a pleasant environment that has a lot of automated features not only for the front seat driver but also for the people at the back. If you are looking for luxury, speed, power, and looks, the Infiniti M45 should be it.
