TOKYO NEWS: Hyundai Unveils Big People Mover at Tokyo Show
Despite a low-key press conference, Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co. stole some of the hometown thunder here with a radical new concept crossover vehicle.
The Neos III concept boasts a twin-cam, V8 engine, loads of cutting-edge technology and a slick shape that foretells future people movers from the Korean automaker.
Designed in Japan, the Neos III concept measures 196 inches long — about the size of the Chrysler Pacifica — and is said to seat six or seven passengers. The all-wheel-drive crossover^s most significant feature, however, may be under the hood: the new dual-overhead-cam, 4.6-liter V8.
Among the high-tech gadgets on the concept are adaptive front lighting, infrared night vision, a head-up display and a trackball controller for the climate system.
The vehicle was styled not in Korea, but at the Hyundai Design and Technical Center in Chiba, Japan. Speculation in the Japanese press said the Neos III is one of several crossover concepts that Hyundai is considering for production toward the end of the decade.
