Honda Offers SoCal Customers Free At-Home Fuel Pump for Natural Gas Cars
In a bid to make its natural-gas-powered Civic GX more convenient for buyers, Honda said Tuesday it will throw in a free home-refueling appliance for 48 months. The incentive is available only for customers in Southern California^s South Coast Air Quality Management District.
The appliance, called "Phill," can be mounted to a garage wall either indoors or outdoors to allow natural-gas-powered vehicles to be refueled overnight from a home^s existing natural-gas supply line. The appliance gives drivers enough fuel for about 100 miles. Honda says it also will offer installation financing of up to $1,500 on the Civic GX-Phill incentive package.
The incentive package has the potential to take the alternative-fuel vehicle to the next level for Honda by making it more practical for consumers. For the past seven years, the Civic GX has been marketed only to fleet operators with dedicated fueling stations.
The GX shares a platform with the 2005 Civic LX sedan, the automaker says. The GX has a driving range of between 200 and 220 miles.
