Historic Cadillac DeVille Replaced by Overhauled DTS
General Motors unveiled its 2006 Cadillac DTS, removing forever the DeVille model name while sprucing up the surviving vehicle line with a modest redesign and upgrades throughout the cabin.
The Cadillac DeVille began its run in 1949 in a coupe version, followed by a sedan in 1954. And for a time, it was the best selling luxury car in the nation.
The Cadillac DTS name was previously used as a sporty version of the DeVille until the decision was made to bring the vehicle in line with the rest of Cadillac^s sedan line-up, dubbed the CTS and STS. As a result, the DeVille name was scrapped in favor of DTS.
Upgrades for the 2006 DTS include styling cues to match the aggressive, angular look of Cadillac^s current line, with specific work on the headlamps and taillights. The car also has larger wheels, some interior materials touch-ups and an improved stability system.
GM sources told Inside Line the vehicle would also get a price cut by about $5,000 for 2006, putting the starting price somewhere around $40,000.
