Volkswagen @ Geneva 2005
The sixth generation of the Volkswagen Passat celebrates its official, public premiere at the 75th International Motor Show in Geneva.
The new Golf Plus, which was launched around four weeks ago, will make its Swiss trade fair debut in Geneva. One other focal point is the extension of the Golf range with the four-wheel drive Golf 4MOTION, the GTI and the Golf Individual. The Phaeton V6 TDI and the 450 hp Touareg W12 Sport will be on show for the first time in Geneva. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will be displaying the Multivan 2.5 TDI and the Caddy Life.
Golf consistent extension of the model range with GTI and 4 MOTION
The Golf model range was consistently extended throughout 2004. Following the launch of the Direct Shift Gearbox DSG for the TDI models in the spring, the second half of the year saw the addition of 4MOTION four-wheel drive for the 2.0 FSI and the two higher-powered TDIs to the product range. In the coming model year, the Golf will be fitted with the chrome package, offering chrome trim on the radiator grille, protective strips and various elements in the passenger compartment. Since last autumn, the Golf range^s absolute highlight has been the 147 kW Golf GTI, which has rekindled the flames of the GTI myth in a fascinating manner.
Golf Individual a very special Golf
A Golf of the very highest class. The Golf Individual which is on show in Geneva is painted in the new "sommelier red" colour. The two-colour 18-inch alloy wheels (model: "Charleston" with ten spokes) developed by Volkswagen Individual stand in sporty contrast to this fine shade of red. The nappa leather sports seat system launched along with the new Golf GTI is particularly comfortable. Unlike the "GTI", however, the centre seat panels are comprised of perforated leather, effectively underlayed with a Bordeauxred fabric. High-quality extras from Volkswagen Individual are already available for the Golf Plus. Besides the Rear Seat Entertainment System, this also includes 18-inch "Charleston" alloy wheels with polished surfaces.
New Beetle rich colours for the spring
With its fresh colours, the New Beetle is an absolute delight to look at. Produced as a limited edition, the New Beetle convertible "Dark Flint" is a particular eye-catcher on the Volkswagen stand. This open-topped New Beetle, which is painted in anthracite and fitted with a garnet-red, hydraulic convertible top and interior equipment covered in Bordeaux-red leather, is available in a series of just 250 vehicles. The special model stands on 17-inch alloy wheels, whose coloured inserts are co-ordinated to the convertible top. This model is focused on design: in addition to the gearstick knob, handbrake lever and grab handle in Bordeaux-red leather, great value has been attached to even the finest details, such as Bordeaux-red seams on the luxury perforated leather seats, the leather steering wheel and the leather-trimmed centre armrest.
The Touareg W12 is the sporty top model
Volkswagen Individual is responsible for designing, developing and marketing this superlative off-roader, which offers 331 kW / 450 hp of output and a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited, speedometer up to 320 km/h). At present, the combination of a twelve-cylinder engine with pneumatic suspension and four-wheel drive is unique. The vehicle^s extraordinary performance, i.e. acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, is impressive but not the focal point. Instead, it is the nature of its mobility, superior in every regard, which recommends the limited edition Touareg W12 Sport to a highly-demanding circle of customers. The 6.0-litre twelve-cylinder engine^s maximum torque of 600 Newtonmetres (at 3250 rpm) ensures that the Touareg always has seemingly inexhaustible power reserves to hand both on and off the road. The petrol engine, which complies with the EU4 standard, is shifted by means of a six-speed automatic gearbox (Tiptronic). Vast swathes of both the exterior and interior of what is Europe^s highest-powered off-roader have been re-specified by Volkswagen Individual. The show vehicle, painted in "deep blue", shows these new features in detail. Externally, they include the exclusively designed bumpers, the widened wheel housings which homogeneously meld with the side sills, darkened windows, the exhaust system^s two chromed twin tailpipes and 20-inch alloy wheels with 275/40 R20 tyres, which identify this Touareg as the W12 Sport. The Touareg^s exclusive interior is further refined by individual sports seats with Alcantara inlays, aluminium trim and aluminium sill strips bearing the "W12 Sport" logo.
Phaeton new V6 TDI with diesel particulate filter
In the autumn of 2004, the Phaeton V6 TDI rounded off the Phaeton product range. Volkswagen therefore has three high-performance petrol engines with six, eight and twelve cylinders and three high-torque TDIs with six and ten cylinders on offer. With its displacement of 3.0 litres, the new V6 TDI has 165 kW / 225 hp of output and develops maximum torque of 450 Newtonmetres. Volkswagen^s top model is the long wheelbase Phaeton W12.
The Caddy Life pure joie de vivre
The Caddy Life bundles practicality and lifestyle an in attractive form. It is an automobile for everyone and for every occasion. With an overall length of 4405 mm, the Caddy Life offers room for everything required for life and living. Its high payload of up to 640 kg and its high functionality make the Caddy Life a practical and reliable companion throughout the day. With its maximum luggage compartment volume of 2850 litres, it is equipped for every eventuality. The standard, triple bench seat in the rear can be split, folded and folded-tipped, whilst the optional, double bench seat can be removed. Based on the Golf V^s technology, the Caddy Life is oriented towards agility, longevity, robustness, economy and a high resale value. Four engines are available: a 1.4l petrol engine with 55 kW (75 hp), a 1.6l petrol engine with 75 kW (102 hp), a 2.0l SDI engine with 51 kW (70 hp) and a 1.9l TDI with 77 kW (105 hp).
The Multivan a premium Volkswagen model series
The Multivan combines a vast sense of space with the diverse usage variations offered by its equipment. It is saloon, lifestyle and weltanschauung in one. Five engine versions are fitted in the Multivan, ensuring enjoyment and appropriate propulsion in everyday motoring. The two superior petrol engines have outputs of 85 kW (115 hp) and 173 kW (235 hp) respectively, whilst the progressive diesel variants range from 77 kW (105 hp), starting with the four-cylinder engine, and 96 kW (130 hp) to 128 kW (174 hp) in the case of the five-cylinder engine. Each five and six-cylinder version has six gears not only those fitted with manual gearboxes, but also the automatic gearbox variants. The Multivan is optionally available with 4MOTION four-wheel drive (manual gearbox). These high engine outputs are combined with running gear which always imparts direct road surface contact with enhanced suspension comfort. These extraordinary vehicle dynamics are essentially attributable to the body^s high level of stiffness and redevelopment of the entire running gear. Large anti-roll bars additionally suppress the vehicle^s lateral inclination on cornering, whilst load-dependent shock absorbers increase ride comfort. Depending on the engine which is installed, the Multivan models are decelerated by the brake disks mounted in the 16" or 17" running gear. Four-channel ABS, TCS, EDL, EBC (not 4MOTION) and ESP (optional for 77 kW only) are fitted as standard.
